Onam is the most important festival celebrated in Munnar, marking the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali. Celebrated during August–September, the festival represents prosperity, unity, and Kerala’s rich cultural heritage. In Munnar, homes and public spaces are decorated with beautiful floral designs called Pookalam, and traditional Onam Sadya (a vegetarian feast served on banana leaves) is prepared. Cultural programs, folk dances, and community gatherings are common, making the town lively despite its calm hill-station atmosphere.
